Yarrow

Yarrow is highly known and widely used in herbal medicines and supplied either externally or internally. The entire plant is used, both dried and fresh and is best when gathered while in flower. Flowers of yarrow contain about 50 % more active ingredients than other parts of the plant.

Yarrow is suggested for the following uses:

  • loss of appetite,
  • indigestion or heartburn,
  • as a diuretic,
  • to increase urine flow,
  • irregular menstrual cycle,
  • menstrual cramps and pain,
  • muscle spasms,
  • inflammation,
  • to fight infection,
  • fever (brings temperature down through sweating),
  • to reduce bleeding,
  • wound healing.

Yarrow acts on the body in different directions due to the presence of different compounds. As a result of broadcasts it demonstrated that reduces or inhibits a completely capillary bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract, lungs, and hemorrhoids. Gentian increase the secretion of digestive juices thus it has a positive effect on digestion, absorption of nutrients from food and increases appetite. Essential oils (chamazulene, cineol, borneol, pinene) acting antispasmodic smooth muscle bile duct, urinary tract disorders which improves the flow of bile, increased urine output and reduces pain caused by smooth muscle cramps bowel disease (for example, in stressful situations). In addition, yarrow has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. Yarrow extracts are also used topically in certain skin diseases as well as mouthwashes and throat (inflammation).
